Now what is weird is that the Activation Wizard shows "Microsoft Office Professional Plus " which I never bought. And then what is even more weird is. After years of use without problem, I am now receiving the above message when I open any Office document (includes WORD, Excel, etc.).

I have gone through the Change Product Key process, entering my existing Product Key, and it says that Office has been successfully installed. But when I open Office again, the not activated message re-appears.

Cancel Submit. Rohn MVP. When your "trial" expires Office will go into "limited function mode". It will provide read and print adtivated access to your existing Office files. You will not be able to edit files or save new ones. If you have confirmed please check again that you have no other Office installations other that Office Starter then the next thing to try is boot the computer, then start one of your Office Programs using "Run As Admin" then doing the activation again.
